Looking for a fun way to spend the day? Stop by the library and borrow a museum pass to board the Battleship New Jersey, one of the most decorated vessels in U.S. history. The pass is available at The County Library in Westampton, the Pinelands Library in Medford, and the Bordentown, Pemberton, and Riverton branches on a first-come, first-served basis. It can be checked out for four days and entitles two adults and three children to admission to the museum.
First commissioned during World War II, the Battleship New Jersey was on active duty until being decommissioned in the early 1990s. You can learn about the ship’s entire history on the museum's website.
During your visit to the museum, you will have an opportunity to explore the entire ship, going up and down ladders, stepping through passageways, and sometimes maneuvering in tight spaces - just like a real member of the crew! After your visit, you can extend the learning by taking the LEGO boat challenge. See who can make the strongest boat! Don’t forget to check out some books about other famous naval ships, available at your local branch.
