All around Burlington County and South Jersey, mooring balls and boats are reappearing in our local waters. Activity on the Delaware River is picking up as sailors race and families take their motorboats out for a leisurely afternoon.

Memorial Day weekend will soon be here and the waterways will be even busier. Boaters and sailors must deal with ripping currents, hidden rocks or objects below the water, large pieces of flotsam, and each other. Safety is paramount and proper awareness and training can mean the difference between life and death.

All boat and personal watercraft operators are required to have a New Jersey State Police issued boating safety certificate on board while navigating on New Jersey waterways, and BCLS has teamed up with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer boating safety courses. These eight-hour certification courses will be offered at multiple branches throughout the boating season. To find out more, explore our scheduled programs.
