Nelle Harper Lee was born on April 28, 1926 in Monroeville, Alabama. The youngest of four children, she grew to develop a love of English literature while attending Monroe County High School. She began writing for the paper while attending the University of Alabama and moved to New York City following graduation. There, she worked as an airline reservation agent, writing fiction in her spare time. After eight years of work, Lee delivered the manuscript for Go Set A Watchmen to her agent. The story was purchased and fell into the hands of literary editor Tay Hohoff, who spent the next three years working with Lee to perfect the work into the re-titled To Kill a Mockingbird.
While she may have only had two books see publication, there has been much talk about the journey of this great American author and those she has inspired. Check out these selections from our catalog to learn more and experience the work of this talented writer.
