For some students, it’s almost time to head to college to start a new semester. For those going to college for the first time, the idea can be daunting. What will your roommates be like? Are you ready to be away from home? Are your finances in order? What do you need to bring? Have no fear, the great college financial readiness website NitroCollege.com has broken down the process into four main checklists.

College Checklist #1: Emotions

This checklist focuses on you; who you are, who you want to be, and where you want to go. Checking off each task or question on this list will not only help you get to know yourself better, it will help you stay “you” when you’re wrapped up in the college craziness.

  College Checklist #2: Financials

Already have a budget in place? That’s awesome! First time thinking about finance? This list is for you. One of the best pieces of advice for both those who already budget and those who don’t is to download a budgeting app like Mint by Intuit. Finances and loans don’t have to be scary. Read everything you sign twice and make sure everything is in order.

  College Checklist #3: Logistics

Most adults agree moving is horrible and never as easy as you think it will be. Have a moving plan. Do you need to take everything to your dorm at once or do you live close enough to take multiple trips? Plan enough time to hang with your family before you head to your first welcome week event.

  College Checklist #4: Stuff

Don’t be a Gilmore Girl! While it might be easier to take multiple trips to haul your stuff to your dorm, you don’t want to feel rushed to buy everything you need last minute. Make a list of everything you want or need to pack and coordinate with your roommate to make sure you don’t buy the same communal items, such as a mini-fridge or shower curtain. You will probably need more than you think. Ask your friends what they’re taking and compare lists to see if you’ve missed anything.

Last but not least, don’t forget to have fun, meet new people and experience the best time of your life.
