In 1605, Catholic supporters conspired to blow up King James and England’s Parliament. The King discovered the Gunpowder Plot, then arrested Guy Fawkes with 36 barrels of gunpowder under the House of Lords. Today Guy Fawkes Night, or Bonfire Night, is celebrated with bonfires and fireworks. The “Fifth of November” poem was made famous by the movie V for Vendetta. The movie was inspired by the holiday and the graphic novel V for Vendetta.
