It’s that time again! Cooler temperatures are here and there is no better time to curl up with a bowl of popcorn and watch a scary movie with your kids. Author Sandra Boynton thinks “kids kind of like being afraid of things, as long as someone calm is right there with reassurance,” and “snuggling helps.” Watching movies with your children can be a great way to bond and discuss things that can be frightening. It opens the door to communication.

BCLS has a wide variety of Halloween and scary movies to choose from. Did you know that Scooby Doo, Shaggy and their friends Fred, Velma and Daphne met on Halloween? The new Scooby Doo movie titled Scoob! is about how the gang originally got together to solve mysteries. We have classics such as It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!, which focuses on one of the Peanuts gang, Linus, waiting for The Great Pumpkin to show up on Halloween night. Whether you choose a newer film or a classic, movies are a great way to bring your family together.

Fun facts about Halloween:

  1. Halloween has Roman and Celtic roots.
  2. Halloween became a family and community-based holiday with fun activities in the late 1800s.
  3. The common Halloween treat candy corn was originally known as “chicken feed.”
