What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?
Interlibrary Loan is a network that allows libraries to share their circulating collections. BCLS belongs to this network of participating libraries in the state and across the country. This allows us to obtain materials from any library willing to lend them.
Who is eligible to request an interlibrary loan?
You are eligible to place ILL requests if you have a library card in good standing. A library card in good standing means that the card has less than $10.00 in fees/fines, no overdue material and no lost items.
Any book or magazine article that BCLS does not already own. Please request no more than 10 items per day. We can not take requests for items that BCLS owns and are in our reference and circulating collections. The same item for the same customer will not be borrowed more than once in a six-month period. Electronic materials (ebooks, audio ebooks and streaming videos) cannot be borrowed via Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loans may not be picked up at the RCBC library location.
There is a nominal $3.00 charge for all ILL transactions, to offset searching fees and postage costs, payable when the item is picked up. There may be additional charges levied by the lending library. Charges for damaged material are the customer's responsibility. For Journal articles $3.00 charge plus cost of printing copies. Please note charges will still apply, even if items are not picked up.
Please remember that ILL requests take a minimum of 10-15 business days to be filled. We are dependent on the cooperation of lending libraries, their resources, staffing and time constraints. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
How can I check the status of a pending request?
To check the status of your request, you may log into your online account and choose the Requests option. Interlibrary loans will be displayed alongside all other requests.
