So what do all those letters and numbers mean on the spine label? Juvenile non-fiction labels all start with one of three letters: E for easy, J for juvenile, and T for teen. This helps you to select the right book for the reading level you need. There are also non-fiction books for teens in the Teen Zone here at the County Library. The numbers on the spine label help us find the book for you. It’s called the Dewey Decimal System. All of the numbers have meaning such as 700 is for arts and 400 is for Language. Looking for books about making crafts? The number of the book you are looking for probably starts with 745. Biographies are considered non-fiction books as well.
With the popularity of history-based juvenile fiction series such as I Survived, there is a growing demand for non-fiction books about history. The Who Is?, Who Was?, Where is?, and What was? is a great non-fiction series that can give kids more information about the real-life historical events found in fiction books. National Geographic Kids books are a great choice as well. They give information without being overwhelming as they use bright, detailed pictures and include interesting bits of information.
