Lately, it seems the internet can’t get enough of the newest Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Set in the Marvel/Avengers universe, the show features two fan favorites, James “Bucky” Barnes, aka “The Winter Soldier,” and Sam Wilson, aka “The Falcon.'' It follows their missions and lives after the last Marvel Avengers movie Avengers: Endgame.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier does a great job of blending humor, action and suspense, all while exploring timely and important themes! If you’ve watched and loved The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and want to dig into the issues touched on during the show, then give these recommendations a glance.

If you loved Sam and Bucky as characters and want to learn more about them, check out any of these comics and movies! And if you absolutely loved watching their gruff “we-are-not-friends-but-we-begrudgingly-care-about-each-other” friendship develop, then you’ll love the characters in The Municipalists by Seth Fried.

If you were moved by Isaiah Bradley’s story of government exploitation and experimentation, and would like to learn more about similar struggles black soldiers have faced throughout their time in the military, then check out any of these books or movies:

If you were surprised by the treatment of veterans throughout the show, such as how Sam Wilson, a former US Air Force para-rescue airman, is unable to qualify for a small business loan, or how a traumatized 106-year-old Bucky Barnes is still sleeping on his living room floor, please check out any of these fiction and nonfiction accounts of how soldiers survive after the war:
