From the Yeti of the Himalayas to the Loch Ness Monster of Scotland, people all over the world report seeing mysterious creatures lurking in the wilds. And perhaps none is more famous than our very own friendly, neighborhood bigfoot! For decades, this big hairy fellow has meandered his way from deep in the woods into the hearts and minds of millions. Whether he truly exists is still a matter of debate, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming a celebrity in his own right. Bigfoot has been featured in countless books, TV shows and movies, and has even starred in some beef jerky commercials. So, real or not, he has certainly left a large footprint on the world.

If you’d like to do a bit of bigfoot-hunting (or “squatching” as some call it), you don’t have to go far. While the Pacific Northwest might be famous as bigfoot’s “home,” there have been sightings all over North America, and even right here in Burlington County! And with summer finally here, it could be an opportune time to get out and see if you can spot the big guy for yourself. The Burlington County Parks System includes more than 1,000 acres across nine parks around the county, perfect spots to stretch your legs while also keeping your eyes peeled for any sneaky local bigfeet.

For more information on the Burlington County Parks System, visit the Burlington County website. Pamphlets about the county parks, which include maps, are also available in the New Jersey Room at the Burlington County Library.
